Senior Curator Botany (Invasive and Non-Invasive Species)
The main purpose of the role is to provide authoritative expertise on species native to Wales and those that are currently, or may in the future, become invasive; and to develop the collection to ensure it is capable of representing biodiversity and monitoring environmental changes in this area. This will be delivered via the collection development plan for Botany.
Engage in networks focused on documenting and researching issues surrounding invasive species to develop projects and maximise grant opportunities. Develop collaborative projects, both within Natural Sciences, AC and externally.
Deliver high quality botanical research projects relating to invasive species and their impacts on the native flora which will align to the goals of the Amgueddfa Cymru Research Strategy.
The role will include a significant component of collection care and management responsibilities for the botany collection in collaboration with the Curator Botany (Collection Care and Access).
The post holder will also participate in the delivery of public programmes (events, exhibitions and digital products) which promote understanding of Amgueddfa Cymru’s botany collection. This will include investigating new ways to promote the collections and identify opportunities to share the collections with other museums throughout Wales.
Curator - Natural Sciences
The Designated collection of natural science comprises around 800,000 specimens and is hugely diverse in terms of subject area, specimen type and taxonomic range. The Curator will be responsible, as part of a job-share, for the development, care and interpretation of this important collection, facilitating access with audiences and supporting our learning and community programmes. The collections are primarily displayed in the Life on Earth gallery at Leeds City Museum and in the publicly accessible collections store at Leeds Discovery Centre.
The role is integral to Leeds Museums & Galleries’ Collections & Programmes team, including delivery on work focused on environmental responsibility. Working collaboratively with colleagues across Leeds Museums and Galleries, Leeds City Council, external partners and communities to maximise the impact of our collections and the experiences of our audiences is an important aspect of the role.
Leeds Museums and Galleries is one of the largest local authority-run museum service in the country and an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.
Learning and Public Engagement Co-ordinator
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Polar Museum team at the Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI), to work as part of a tight-knit team to develop and deliver inclusive and accessible projects and activities which engage a diverse range of audiences with the Polar Museum collections and SPRI research as a whole. The role holder will develop, deliver, co-ordinate and administer the Learning and Public Engagement programme, including planning and delivering educational sessions, creating learning resources, co-ordinating formal education visits and activities, and delivering projects with schools, communities and special interest groups.
The Polar Museum has an international reputation for the quality and scope of its activities, and its public programme encompasses research, talks, events, and engagement activities.
Museum Assistant
We are inviting applications for the post of Museum Assistant. This three-year position is available at the University of Cambridge Museum of Zoology and is based on-site. The Museum of Zoology is part of the Department of Zoology and is home to a collection designated as being of national and international importance. The Museum is open to the public Tuesday to Sunday, welcoming around 150,000 visitors a year.
You will support two of the University Museum of Zoology's key functions: Assisting with the care of our collections, and ensuring our visitors gain the best possible experience of their visit to the museum.
On Sundays you will be working with the Visitor Services and Operations Team, providing Front-of-House support and working with the Visitor Engagement Volunteers. For the rest of the time, you will be working as part of the Collections Team on a range of collections care and management tasks. This will include assisting research visits and undertaking re-storage and documentation projects. You should have practical experience of collections management work and collection care, experience of supervising volunteers and must be committed to providing excellent customer-service, with a proven ability to enthuse, motivate and inform people of all ages and backgrounds, including other staff, volunteers, visitors and external stakeholders.

Preparator / Technical Assistant
The African Natural History Research Trust (ANHRT) is a charitable research trust and museum focused on African entomology. Our research is aimed at increasing the scientific knowledge of African insects with an emphasis on Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths). We are looking for a full-time Insect Preparator / Technical Assistant. Within this role you will be expected to sort and identify entomological samples to orders. Assist with the curation and storage of the samples and incorporate all relevant Collection Management Policies and Procedures.
Skills and Experience:
• Familiarity in Insect orders/families and some experience with sorting of field samples is preferable but not essential. All necessary training in the required techniques will be provided.
• Ability to work well in a team, but also able to manage their own time/projects independently.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Able to multi-task and adapt efficiently to changing priorities.

Data Manager
We are seeking to appoint an individual experienced in data cleaning tools and methodologies to support the digitisation project, cleaning Herbarium and Fungarium specimen data and importing specimen records into Kew’s collection management system.
Essential skills and experience required for this role include skills in generating complex queries of large data sets with appropriate technical skills for the efficient manipulation and transfer of data and a competent understanding of taxonomy, nomenclature, and geography.
This role is based at Kew with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.
Zoological preparator/taxidermist for mammals

The State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart (SMNS) with its two locations Museum am Löwentor and Schloss Rosenstein is one of the largest natural history museums in Germany with about 180 employees and sees itself as a future-oriented research and educational institution. Its zoological collections and exhibitions are of global and historical importance beyond the focus on south-western Germany; the preparation of vertebrates at the SMNS in particular enjoys an excellent reputation, partly due to the work of Friedrich Kerz and his students.
The SMNS is looking for an experienced zoological preparator/taxidermist (m/f/d) with the motivation and ability to create mammal taxidermies of high quality and to provide technical support for one of the largest mammal collections in Germany.
Your main tasks:
High-quality preparation of mammals into dermoplastics, skins, skeletons or wet specimens for scientific research, collections and exhibitions
Long-lasting conservation and restoration of mammal specimens including type and historically significant material
Biological model construction including coloring and mounting
Organization of the zoological taxidermy laboratory and integrated pest management (IPM) in the mammal collection
Qualified collection work: collection pickup and inventory of new acquisitions; research and data entry on existing holdings and new acquisitions in the electronic collection database DWB; support for the curator with loans and inquiries about the collection
Knowledge transfer, e.g. to junior preparators/taxidermists
Assisting guests, students and interns, also with field work
Assisting with setting up and dismantling exhibitions and promotional campaigns for the museum, e.g. show preparation or guided tours of the collection
Participation in general departmental tasks (e.g. maintaining specimens in the exhibition, moving zoological sub-collections)
Assistant Conservator
The University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge is seeking a full-time fixed-term Assistant Conservator. The post-holder will provide practical and preventative specialist conservation advice and treatment across the collections.
The role offers a unique opportunity to work as part of a fast-paced team building practical experience working with natural history collections. Core activities will include providing conservation treatments to the permanent exhibits as well as upcoming exhibitions and stored collections. They will be responsible for the care of the collections through monitoring and improving upon environmental and storage conditions, including pest management. They will promote and develop best practice in conservation and collections care. The post-holder will also be expected to work on the Museum's spirit-preserved specimens.
Digitisation Officer Microscope Slides
This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of a large Digital Collections team dedicated to increasing access to the collections at Kew to facilitate and accelerate novel research.
The microscope slide collection at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is the largest of its kind worldwide, incorporating around 150,000 slides and representing a unique resource for trait analysis and plant authentication.
We are looking to appoint a digitisation officer to continue the development and testing of new digitisation workflows for microscope slides. Whilst the digital collections team is large the individual needs to be comfortable working autonomously as they will be the only digitisation officer currently focussed on working with microscope slides.
Essential skills and experience required for this role include knowledge of preparation of microscope slides, experience of data entry and imaging, good collection handling skills, strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
This role is based at Kew with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.
