Welcome to the NatSCA Lunchtime Chats, a membership-only feature of NatSCA to connect, inspire, comfort and distract all of our lovely community.

During the past two years we have missed getting together and sharing the day-to-day happenings of working with natural history collections, so we thought we would trial a new platform to showcase our little victories (or disasters), puzzles solved, new equipment tested, techniques demystified, wonders revealed, prescient warnings, interesting stories or research. They can be an introductions to larger projects, accompany NatSCA blog or journal articles and be a great way to practice presenting to your peers if you are new to the trade.

These monthly ‘chats’ are supposed to be informal, no fancy equipment is needed, it will be put out over the NatSCA Zoom platform and there is no fixed format. There will be shaky walks through stores by mobile, demos, plain pieces to camera or traditional PowerPoints if that’s the best way to share images and info.

A member of our committee will introduce the speaker and help deal with questions afterwards and talks will be around 10 to 20 minutes long, with about the same amount of time for questions afterwards, hopefully fitting into most people’s lunch break.

For those who want to take part please email to put forward your idea; if a stable internet connection for what you want to achieve is tricky we can put up a pre-recorded video and then speakers can jump in at the end for the discussion.

Bring your sandwiches and a cuppa and we hope to see you on the day! All members will have received a link to join via Zoom - if you haven't get in touch with
