Associate Curator, Medicine
The Science Museum is planning major new Medicine Galleries. Spectacularly showcasing the treasures of the Wellcome Collection and Science Museum, the suite of galleries will thematically engage visitors with the history of medicine from 1500 to today, displaying objects and stories that have shaped our experience of medicine. We are seeking an associate curator to help us deliver this landmark project.
You will have a specialist qualification in History of Medicine at undergraduate or post-graduate level, and a keen interest in the material culture of science and the storytelling power of objects.
With demonstrable experience of carrying out high-quality research using varied sources, and excellent writing and oral presentation skills, you will be able to communicate complex ideas effectively to a non-specialist audience. Previous collections experience, including handling and assessing objects, documentation and cataloguing would be advantageous but not essential.
You will be self-motivated, able to work effectively within a team and comfortable liaising with a range of colleagues and external stakeholders. Your attention to detail and ability to juggle a complex workload under time pressure will be second to none, as you play a key role in delivering the Science Museum Masterplan and enhancing the national collections.
