The Service

Portsmouth Museums & Visitor Services is responsible for the care of the city's museum collections and for making them accessible to both residents and visitors. The service operates six museum and heritage sites across the city - Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery, The D-Day Story, Portsmouth Natural History Museum, Charles Dickens' Birthplace Museum, Southsea Castle and Eastney Engine Houses. We deliver activities and projects to engage and inspire a range of audiences and involve them in the development and delivery of the service.

What is the role?

The purpose of the role is to assist in the delivery of 'Wild about Portsmouth', a HLF funded project. You will assist the Curator of Natural History in helping to make the collection accessible for display, events and research. They will work alongside museum staff, stakeholders and volunteers to help develop and promote our natural history collections.

You will contribute to social media postings, update museum records, rehousing and reorganising collections as well as uploading images on Modes Complete (Museums database). The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the development of the Wild About Portsmouth activity plan and will work with volunteers and work experience student as necessary.

What you need to succeed?

We are looking for a well organised, methodical person who has great attention to detail and a real passion for natural history.

The successful candidate will have strong IT skills with experience of working with Microsoft Office applications, databases and using social media in a professional manner. If you have excellent communication and customer care skills along with flexibility and an interest in natural history we want to hear from you!
