Do you have experience of the management, storage and movement of collections? Are you able to plan and manage projects effectively?

One Collection will revolutionise public access to one of the most significant scientific collections in the world. In spring 2019 construction began at the National Collections Centre in Wiltshire on a new home for more than 300,000 historic items from the Science Museum Group Collection. This will transform how we manage, care for and share our collection with the world, ensuring these historic objects continue to inspire future generations. From 2023 this building will open regularly for public tours, school and research visits, providing unprecedented public access to this incredible collection.

As Collections Moves Manager you will maintain, coordinate and enhance the delivery of the sub-project to digitise and pack objects at our Blythe House site ahead of their move into the NCC. Working closely with colleagues, you will lead the teams delivering the core collections moves workflow: Inventory, Hazard Surveyors, Photography, Conservation & Collections Care, and Packing. With the exception of packing, which started this year, the workflows started in April 2018. Each team is also supported and trained by specialist colleagues for their discipline and you will liaise closely with other managers. You will also liaise with the Curatorial team in London and wider Collections Services team at Blythe House and the NCC and ensure collaborative work.

In this role you will ensure that these tasks are carried out in a safe and secure manner to comply with current legislation and following best professional practice. You will be aware of hazard management procedures associated with historic objects and have a good knowledge of Health and Safety.
